1. EDUCATION AND ICT
Education is key to the success of every child.
RAYDEP is very passionate about community
development, social justice and building a bette
r world. In achieving this, we are working in
partnership with Dove Shine School in Kware
Slums – Ongata Rongai town in Kajiado County.
In this area where poverty, gender-based violence,
drug and substance abuse, pregnancy and other
harmful practices hinder education, we offer
training and other holistic support - blended
with academics, mentorship, HIV/Aids and
reproductive health education, theatre,
sports and digital literacy in the local community.
DOVE SHINE SCHOOL
“Working hard for a Bright Future” – This school motto has proven true over the years that the school has been in existence with Madam Anna Wanjiru Kariuki, the founder and Director of Dove Shine School. Teaming together with Madam Anna, RAYDEP provides experiences to take slum children out of their daily environment for experiences of nature. They also provide education and inspiration to fortify the children against the undermining and predatory elements of the slums through their HIV/Aids program.
Type your paragraph hereAn independent private school on the slums of Kware area near Ongata Rongai town approximately 1km from Kware bus stage along the Magadi road (as indicated in the map). Dove Shine school currently educates almost 350 children, from pre-kindgarten through up to grade 6. When Kenya updated their educational system countrywide, the new curriculum required computer lessons and science laboratories for junior secondary schools which Dove Shine Primary School did not have. This made the school to do without the upper classes and remained up to grade 6 due to lack of enough class rooms. Currently, the school has bought only 11 desktop computers, which is helping them to carry on 2 lessons per week. RAYDEP is appealing for the well-wishers /or and donors to come to the aid of the school in augmenting the education requirement of the students.
With little financial income from the students and the know-how and industriousness of the school director, Madam Anna, the school is still in dire need of external finances. Currently, the school is made of iron building “mabati” in an area of 1/8th of an acre including a kitchen and toilet facilities. The land is an inheritance for the director, Madam Anna, from her father. Therefore, the extension land for the school is guaranteed (this can be seen on the photos as indicated) in case of finding finances to
achieve the same.
How You Can Help RAYDEP is also requesting the well-wishers /or and the donors to remove the burden of the children by launching a meal support program for the Dove Shine School. To ensure that the children have breakfast porridge and lunch every day. The needs are overwhelming but there is a strong saying that “where there is a will, there is a way”.
